Play65 Collaborates with European Backgammon Tour

Play65 is bringing together online backgammon and live tournament play by collaborating with the World Backgammon Association (WBA) for the upcoming 2011 Season of the European Backgammon Tour (EBGT).
December 20, 2010 --

Play65 and the World Backgammon Association are happy to announce collaboration for the 2011 Season of the successful European Backgammon Tour. According to the collaboration agreement, Play65 members will enjoy exclusive qualifiers for the 8-stop European Backgammon Tour and monthly satellites for the tour's €15,000 Grand Finale. In addition, for the first time, online backgammon tournaments would grant their participants with Masterpoints. Finalists of the Play65/EBGT online qualifiers will also be granted with a free VIP Club membership.

"The biggest online playing site has joined the biggest backgammon promoter to make the European Backgammon Tour 2011 bigger, better and richer than ever", said Chiva Tafazzoli, WBA president. "When the best and biggest online backgammon platform meets the most established, dedicated and successful offline partner – great things are expected", added Daniel Mester, Play65 co-founder, supporting Mr. Tafazzoli enthusiasm.

The European Backgammon Tour, which has been running successfully since 2006 will open its 2011 fifth season on February in Istanbul, Turkey, and close it in December 2011 at the lucrative Grand Finale in Cyprus with €25,000 prize pool. On the way, it will stop in various attractive European locations including Portugal, Georgia, France and Spain.

This upcoming season of the EBGT/Play65 tour is also expected to finally bridge the gaps between offline and free online backgammon. Backgammon professionals of both disciplines will be able to compete at the same online qualifiers and offline events and they will be sharing the same ranking system (WBA Masterpoints). That way, good offline backgammon players will be able to test their skills on the foreign ground of backgammon online competition and the other way around.
