The World Backgammon Champions

The World Backgammon Championship is one of the most prestigious events of the year. It gives both avid and professional players from all around the world the chance to compete with each other by playing the game they all adore – backgammon; the game of luck and skill.

The World Backgammon Championship began in 1967 in Las Vegas and it stayed there until it moved to the Bahamas in 1975 but it was only on 1976 that these major backgammon tournaments received the title as “The World Backgammon Championship”.
Since 1979 until now, the tournament is held in Monte Carlo at The Fairmont Monte Carlo.

The 31st World Backgammon Championship took place on July 10th-16th 2006, in which backgammon player Philip Vischjager took the crown.
