Ladies Backgammon Night on Play65

Play65 supports women in backgammon by offering free entry to the Tuesdays €500 tournament, now known as the "Ladies First" tournament.

Play65 is turning Tuesday nights into a ladies' backgammon night. Since the beginning of November 2009, every Tuesday at 20:00 GMT, women backgammon players from around the world take time off their other pursuits and concentrate on winning the first prize at the €500 tournament, which offers free entry to the ladies while their men colleagues are be asked to deposit €6 at the entrance.

A "ladies cup" is not a rare event in worldwide backgammon tournaments and championships, but it is the first time that an online backgammon tournament targets women directly. Yet, unlike the common ladies cups, Play65 Ladies event, taking place every Tuesday evening since the 3rd of November 2009, is not intending to limit the play to women; instead, the online backgammon room is giving female backgammon players an advantage in the form of a free entry.

The purpose of Ladies First is to support and strengthen women players and encourage them to play backgammon online. Women were often intimated by backgammon notorious masculine nature, as with other occupations that involve mathematics and/or games you play for money. Yet in recent years, backgammon ceased to be dominated by males, largely thanks to online backgammon, which gave women an opportunity to play anonymously without being prejudged by their gender. Now you can see more women play international tournaments and naturally win prestigious prizes, and hopefully you will see more women becoming backgammon champions thanks to Play65's support.
